What happened on 4th June? - Site outage

From 4am GMT (4th June) we experienced a major system failure that meant the Diary.com was inaccessible until 12pm later in the day.

As a result of this failure we were unable to recover data between 3rd June 4am GMT and 4th June 4am GMT. Any entries made into Diary.com between these times we regretfully say have been lost. We are currently working hard to try and recover as much as we can if at all possible and to ensure this won’t happen again in the future.

If you signed up to the Diary.com during those times you will have to recreate you account by signing up again.

All we can say is sorry at this point and you continue to use and support our beta.

Live Diary is .... live!

We’re really excited about the new public diaries, and we thought that there were even more ways for us to show everyone all the great posts that have been put up.

Live Diary http://diary.com/live is a feed of all of the newest posts to public diaries so you can see all of the new content at once. There are posts from people’s own public diaries as well posts from Confessions and Secrets http://diary.com/diary/23775-diary-confessions—advice, and if you want to see something really awesome, scroll to the bottom of the page and watch the older posts keep showing up!

Improved authoring tools

We’ve been busy improving the tools Diary.com provides for our authors, making it cleaner and more obvious. From all the feedback we have gained from our Diary authors, they wanted more control of their entries. You can now select the option best suited to what you want to put in your diary and some basic formatting features for those longer posts.

We’ve also taken this opportunity to make the privacy aspect clearer, so it’s clear what you are writing is private or viewable by your friends in the top left tab.

This is part of string of improvements we’re working on so, so bear with us while we try to make the experience of writing better.

Public Diaries are coming!

Although diary is private for just you, or with your friends, we just released our new public diary format for special diaries.

Why have we done this? If you trawl through the web you will see many public diary sites and we wanted to create some great public diaries. We have kicked it off with a couple of shopping and green public diaries. Stay tuned for more!

Have your say!

One of the most popular things people are doing on each others Diaries is commenting on about what your friends write about.

We’ve just made that easier by showing the most recent comments underneath the Diary entry so you can keep up-to-date without having to click through to another page.

Inline Comments

What is also really handy is you can have your say right where the post is, by clicking on “add a comment”. TIP: Just hit ENTER after you typed your comment and your comment will be instantly there.
